Ten Rainbows Children's
Foundation was founded by a group of friends and co-workers who wanted to do
"something more" for our community.
"We were just a bunch of guys who worked together and threw a party one day.
We decided to charge admissions to offset the costs and much to our surprise
found we had made a profit. We decided unanimously to give the money to
charity and in that instant the seed of Ten Rainbows was planted. A few of us
liked the notion of donating to charities and decided we wanted to do
something for kids. We started having parties, cleaning yards, holding
raffles, doing odd jobs, and moving people into their new homes for money. We
would then use the money to help children.
As we became known in the community we decided to find a name and get a little
more organized. We felt that by coming together in a more focused fashion we
could have a bigger impact. Thus the Ten Rainbows came about. Rainbows have
traditionally represented hope and joy in many cultures, and we weren't
forgetting the legendary treasure at the end of the rainbow! Since there were
ten of us at the time.... Ten Rainbows it was.
Every day we see children who are in need. Some because of medical problems,
some financial. There are many fine organizations in our province that help in
many ways, and still we saw that there were children who "fell through the
cracks." We wanted to fill those gaps and reach children that otherwise might
not be caught.
Because we are not tied to any one government program or set of guidelines we
are in the enviable position of being able to help in ways that many others
cannot.
In 1993 we became a registered Canadian charity, helping us to expand into
fund raising events blocked to us as a private group. This year finds us
expanding into new chapters in cities and towns across Ontario and becoming
fully incorporated. We are always looking for new ways to raise funds and new
ways to help children in our community with those funds."
